Some of the designs on the galleries of this website were created in a virtual world called Openlife, similar to Second Life, where people interact with others through the use of an avatar and use the resources of the virtual world to create content that they, as individuals, could not easily create in real life.

Whilst inworld content was designed to remain inworld and given away or sold to others , or transferrable to other virtual worlds, the emphasis here has been on using some content from that virtual world and producing real life content as designs on gifts and products that can be purchased and worn or used by real people.

Some examples are given below. Each image represents something that was created as a virtual object in Openlife and now available in real life on a range of products and gifts. Click on the images to go to the item in the real world store.

That part of the gallery devoted to peace, tranquility and those virtues that enable us to cope with life however harsh it may appear - happiness, confidence, being at one with the universe.

The first theme here is the inspirational and spritually uplifting words of the poem Desiderata. Incorrectly attributed to an anonymous author in 1692, the poem is by an American writer, Max Ehrmann, 1927.

The inspirational words of Desiderata are shown on a number of gifts here.

The first two images are from photographs taken in the Peak District, in Northern England. It's proximity to two major cities and its fame for outstanding natural beauty makes it the second most visited National Park in the world.

Designs from the world of science and space on products that will take you and your descendants boldly into the 22nd Century, items that you can wear or use, or give as gifts to others with an interest in the sciences, space and its expanding frontiers.

Spiral Galaxies

Designs based on images of a collection of nearly 10,000 multicolored galaxies of different ages, sizes, shapes and colors. Blue and green spiral galaxies are visible to the human eye, red, orange and golden galaxies glowing are infra-red dust covered galaxies invisible to the naked eye. There are classical spiral and elliptical galaxies and galaxies and nebulae that look like jewelry and bracelets.

Two spiral galaxies with thousands of golden stars in the blackness of stellar deep space in a repeating pattern of waves that spread outwards from the centre of the universe, feature in some of the items. The equation V = HD expresses Hubble's Law which states that the velocity of receding galaxies increases the further the distance they are from the centre of the universe ( H is Hubble's Constant). Flowers from Fiji in Oceania, Asia Pacific. Photographed by the author on a visit to Suva, the capital, on Viti Levu, the main island at Thurston Gardens, formerly the Botanical Gardens. Fiji is rich in a range of botanical tropical flora from colorful orchids to majestic palm trees. The flower illustrated below has bell-shaped petals, purple and white in color, and looks like an orchid. The design appears on various items easy to customize and easy to personalize. Tropical Fish - Freedom of the Seas

Tropical fish may be freshwater or salt water species and characterised by their bright colors. Many of the salt water variety, marine tropical fish, live amongst or in close relation to coral reefs and many species can exist in a small area of a reef, hidden or well camouflaged.

Although coral reefs occupy less than one percent of the surface area of the world oceans, they provide a home for 25 percent of all marine fish species. Loss and degradation of coral reef habitat, increasing pollution from oils spills, and overfishing threaten the survival of the coral reefs and the associated reef fish.

The images used in the gifts shown in this gallery feature shoals of marine tropical fish with the typical alternating bands of black and colorful stripes characteristic of many species.

The text Freedom of the Seas and Saoirse Na Mara (the Irish language version) is associated with some of the items, reflecting the importance of ensuring the oceans remain free and unpolluted for the benefit of all marine and aquatic life.

The Common Tern - Sterna Hirundo

A group of common terns, collectively known as a committee of terns is the focus of this design. The species here shows the Common Tern whose head and head feathers are distinctively black, breast white, tinged with gray and swallow-like forked tail.

Some of the items show one large tern followed by progressive waves of smaller terns in greater numbers radiating from a centre point outside the image, generated as a fractal design. It gives the impression of terns in a symmetrical flight pattern similar to waves breaking on a shore.

The vintage illustration dates from a publication on British birds and their habitats in 1899. The species here shows the Common Tern whose head and head feathers are distinctively black, breast white, tinged with gray and swallow-like forked tail. The tern is a smaller seabird than most gulls, many people often mistaking a tern for a gull.

The Camel - Camelus dromedarius

There are two species of camels. The dromedary or Arabian camel has a single hump, and the Bactrian camel has two humps. Contrary to popular belief the hump does not contain water, but a reservoir of fatty tissue which, when metabolized, generates water. Other physiological adaptations enable the camel to survive in harsh desert conditions that would otherwise prove fatal to other species.

The focus on this gallery is on the dromedary, in particular, camels for sale at the weekly camel market at Goulimine in south western Morocco where traders buy and sell their animals. The annual fair in June every year attracts buyers and sellers from the Sahara Desert. Camels are not the only focus here as many craftsmen come to Goulimine to sell their goods. Tourists frequent this part of Morocco attracted by unique metalware, pottery and handcrafted goods where hard bargaining is required.

The items for sale in this gallery are based on photographs taken by the author at Goulimine in south Morocco, near the Spanish Sahara, Mauritania and Algeria, where several camels were on display for sale.

The Mule

A mule is the offspring of a male donkey (Equus asinus) and a female horse (Equus caballus). The mule at the focus of this gallery is one at rest in a village in South West Morocco. The saddle bags are empty but a fully laden mule can carry over 200lbs ( 90 kg); that's about 20% of its body weight.

In addition to possessing stamina and endurance, mules inherit the the determination of the male donkey and the intelligence of the female horse from which mules are bred. The mule is used to transport goods wherever the terrain and conditions are too rough and harsh, or the cost of tractors prohibitive.

In Africa the mule will be found at work in extremes of temperature, from the snow in the High Atlas mountains to the heat of the Sahara, and in heavily populated urban locations such as the Medina in Fez, the worlds largest car-free city.

The theme of this gallery is music in all its forms, as designs and artwork created in the metaverse as virtual goods find life as real life products. The collection here covers musical instruments and music played in a range of genres.

The Saxophone

The Saxophone is the only woodwind instrument that has never been made out of wood. Made of brass it has a reed mouthpiece. When you think of saxophones you probably imagine its characteristic bent body shape with upturned bell. This shape is typical of all saxophones, except the soprano sax which is straight.

The saxophone is named after its inventor, Adolphe Sax, a Belgian who created the instrument in in the 1840's. Intended originally for use in military bands the sax became synonymous with jazz and blues, and big band music.

Famous saxophone players have included Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Stan Getz, as well as former US President Bill Clinton. Lisa Simpson has also frequently been seen playing the saxophone.

The theme for this gallery is that of weddings, but the story behind the art and design work expressing it lies in legend brought to life in the fictional world of Tolkien's Valinor and the spirits that dwell there in human form, and Earandilor representing Earendil the Mariner who, as an elf, fought evil on behalf of men and elves in Middle Earth.

Reconstructed on the virtual world of Openlife the myths find a life of their own as they are visited by humans in human and elvish form. In one corner of Earandilor we find what many couples in love are looking for, Bridal Island with its altar and flora where wedding ceremonies take place and marriage vows exchanged.

We capture the moment and, with our magic, we turn the images we see here into the reality of marriage and the preparations for it in your own world, so that brides to be can plan a wedding that has a story and a happy ever after day that's based on a legend of the past shared with other legends of knights, honor, romance, princesses and dragons.

Easter

Easter has its origins in two traditions, Pagan and Christian, both celebrating death and resurrection linked to the Spring Equinox. For Western Christians Easter Sunday falls on the first Sunday after the Spring Equinox, which occurs between March 20th and March 22nd.

Easter is often celebrated several weeks later by the Eastern Orthodox churches as they follow the Julian Calendar, rather than the Gregorian Calendar.

Traditions at Easter therefore reflect themes that are Pagan and Christian in origin.

The Easter Egg and the Easter Bunny we inherit from Norse mythology, where the hare and the egg of the Goddess Ostara represent fertility.

The egg as a symbol of fertility and the decorating with colored dyes dates back to the ancient Egyptians.

The designs in this collection reflect on these traditions. This part of the gallery includes children's artwork designs. Whilst not an Easter theme, they strike a chord with a theme of re-birth and renewal after long winters.

A collection of designs and artwork realised in the metaverse and brought to life as a reminder to us of the fragility of our planet and the endangered and threatened species it supports.

The collection is rather modest at the moment, featuring one example of each of flora and fauna at risk of extinction, but the designs are available on a wide range of products, each of which may be personalized when purchased on gifts for others or yourself.
